April 13, 7:30: Jeff Eggers. National security. (Introduced by Ben Ehrman).

April 16, 3:00: Visit to the Smithsonian American Art Museum, with a guided tour led by Jean Choi. 

Week Five:

April 18, 8 p.m., Movie Night: Legally Blonde;  followed by a discussion of whether the movie resonates with any workplace issues the interns have encountered in their offices.  Is this actually a political movie?  Consider:

"When I saw the movie I just felt it gave me like a real surge of motivation because I really identified with her," Layla Summers, a family law attorney, told Spectrum News. "I think the movie is still very relevant," she added. "Just being a girl and being a woman, the odds are stacked against you still...When I watch the movie now I feel like I’m part of a great club of powerful professional women, like a sorority." 

April 21 (Thursday), PEA Washington Alumni Association gathering, National Press Club.

April 26 (Tuesday), 5:45, Nick Eberstadt at the American Enterprise Institute.  Dr. Eberstadt holds the Henry Wendt Chair in Political Economy at the (AEI), where he researches and writes extensively on demographics and economic development generally, and more specifically on international security in the Korean peninsula and Asia. Domestically, he focuses on poverty and social well-being. He is also a senior adviser to the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR). 

We will meet at AEI HQ: American Enterprise Institute, 1789 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036 (a six-minute walk from the Dupont Circle Metro station). Light refreshments will be served. Make sure you get there on time.

May 4, 7:30 in the Boardroom, Greg Craig, who has served as a legal advisor and counselor to presidents Clinton & Obama, as well as secretary of state Madeleine Albright and Sen. Ted Kennedy. 

May 6-8. Mr. Jordan is home, Ms. Burke-Hickey will check you in Friday and Saturday nights.

Week Eight:

May 10, 7:30 p.m., Zach Barnett, Communications Director, Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA).

May 11, 4 p.m. Kem and John Sawyer founders of at the Pulitzer Center.  Jon Sawyer is executive director of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, a nonprofit organization that funds independent reporting with the intent of raising the standard of media coverage of global affairs and that also supports a broad range of educational initiatives. Sawyer became the center's founding director after a 31-year career with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.   Kem Sawyer is an editor at the Pulitzer Center and director of its Campus Consortium reporting fellow program. 

You will need to leave work early and get to the Pulitzer Center at 1779 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036 by 4 p.m.  We'll go out to dinner together afterwards.

May 17, 7:30 p.m. (Tuesday) Robert Bauer, NYU law professor and former legal Counsel to President Obama.  He was appointed by President Obama to chair his Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States, which issued its report in December of 2021. You can read about the report here and get an opinion by one member of the commission here. He spoke in the PEA Assembly on April 22, 2022.

May 18 Katherine Gronberg, Head of Government Services at NightDragon, an investment and advisory firm focused on growth and late-stage investments within the cybersecurity, safety, security and privacy industries, and the founder and president of Gronberg Consulting.

May 23: Monuments at night.
